Imagine yourself in a beautiful studio with a pile of your best underwear and a three hour session ahead in which you will be photographed with your arms, legs, stomach, ass and breasts exposed to the light. And the camera.
What comes up for you?
Terror?
Excitement?
An aching desire to reschedule for next month?
In this conversation with my friend, Artist, Activist, and Boudoir photographer Jen Dean, we uncover what we’ve seen in the studio with the real Women who have said “yes” to this experience, and why it’s a radical act of resistance and reclamation.
A preview of highlights before you dive in:
The real reason we dread being photographed in our underwear
Why we toggle between longing to be seen and demanding to be invisible
Why making art of any kind is inherently Anti-Patriarchy
How Patriarchy has brainwashed you to disdain the female form
Consent and why we say, “yes” when the true answer is, “no”
Why respecting Women’s bodies is not nearly enough to stand against Misogyny
The Sacred Portal is a ceremonial experience of photography, pleasure, and worship with Jen Dean and Megan Jo Wilson in Westbrook, Maine.
